A few years ago I took part in a Look Good Feel Better workshop. Having grown up in a Mary Kay household, I had heard of the program, but never in a million years would have thought that at 41 years young I would be in cancer treatment and be taking part myself.
Christine and the amazing group of volunteers who run this program make you feel so welcome. I have known Christine for most of my life so, when she asked me to be the class model, I naturally said yes. I was a little nervous at first but the wonderful ladies who were helping that day and the other attendees put me at ease. It ended up being so much fun trying a new makeup look and modeling the wigs, head scarfs and hats. We had a lot of laughs! For two hours I was not thinking about cancer, but rather just living in the moment. The great part about the program is that even if you don’t wear makeup, the knowledgeable volunteers teach you about skincare and the importance of sun protection.
Look Good Feel Better gives women confidence. You feel empowered knowing that you still have control over your appearance during treatment, and that you can still look and feel good about yourself with or without hair.
The Look Good Feel Better workshop was an excellent experience. I am grateful that programs like this exist to support women and give them the opportunity to connect with other women who understand how they feel. It is so much more than just makeup. I encourage every woman going through their own cancer journey to take part.
